Permits and conditions
As a drone pilot, you are required to follow the laws and regulations that apply to aviation. Which laws apply and which permits are required depend on what the drone will be used for and where you will be flying.
Flight within South Lapland Airport (ESNV) Traffic Information Zone TIZ
Flying closer than 5 km from the airport runways within an established TIZ is only permitted if two-way radio communication, or equivalent, is maintained with air traffic control.
The exception is if the flight is at altitudes less than 50 m above the ground and more than 5 km from the airport runways. In this case, two-way radio communication with air traffic control is not required.
This applies to drones weighing up to 7 kg and speeds up to 90 km/h.
Rules of flight
If approval to fly within TIZ/TIA is given from South Lapland Airport then
The following conditions apply to the drone pilot:
• The pilot calls air traffic control at 0940-310 09 when the flight begins.
• The pilot must be reachable by mobile phone throughout the flight.
• The pilot should be able to monitor the airspace to abort a flight if something
Another aircraft is approaching the area.
• When flying in several different areas, the pilot must announce when switching between
areas, so that tower personnel can give other traffic the correct information.
• Pilot calls and announces when the flight is over.
Contact with South Lapland Airport
To fly drones in airspace near airports, special permission from air traffic control is required on each individual occasion.
The drone pilot should always contact us at the airport before a planned flight and fill out a checklist with information about the flight as shown below.
• Date and time of planned flight.
• Duration of the flight.
• Affected area. (Preferably a map with marked area)
• Maximum height above ground or water.
• Name and telephone number of the pilot in charge.
